In order for our students to maintain the skills acquired during the year and encourage good reading habits, we have compiled a list of novels for summer reading (links below). Reading should be a pleasurable activity for us all, and we hope to ignite and fuel a passion for reading in all of our students. If your child does not have a public library card, you may sign up online or find your closest public library to get a FREE library card. To continue enrichment during the summer, we are mandating all students from K-12 to read, and complete two book reports. In addition, they are required to work on the listed IXL/Khan Academy skills per week during the summer. See the recommended skills per grade by their teachers below. This will be part of their quarter 1 grades.
(Completed KG –5th grade)
Reading: Students completed grades KG-5th are strongly encouraged to read throughout the summer. Whatever you decide to do this summer, keep a book nearby Insha’Allah. There are so many opportunities to read especially during, like waiting at a doctor’s office, riding in the car, on the plane, on rainy days, and in bed before drifting off to sleep. Reading is a good pastime and an entertaining way to learn.
Required: Reading a minimum of 5 books and completing a minimum of two book reports. See link below.
Language Arts & Math: Additionally, students are working on IXL skills that will be part of their quarter 1 grades in the next academic year. See link under Elementary tab for the list of IXL skills.
(Completed 6th-8th Grade)
Reading: Students completed grades 6-8th grade must select at least two novels from the appropriate grade level list to read during the summer. Students are required to complete two book reports that must be submitted to their English teacher during the first week of school.
Math: Students are to work on IXL skills that will be part of their quarter 1 grades in the next academic year.
(Completed 9th - 11th Grade)
Reading: Students that completed grades 9th-11th grade must select at least two novels from the appropriate grade level list to read during the summer. Students will be required to complete a book report for each book using the template.
Math: Additionally, students are working on Khan Academy skills, that will be part of their quarter 1 grades in the next academic year. Please click on the listed skills under the high school tab below. Students need to click on the grade level they just completed and complete those skills.
